The Class of 2027 Summer Checklist

If you're class of 2027, this is the summer your recruitment actually starts — whether you participate in it or not. Junior film is the film coaches offer off of, and the staffs who will watch it in November are building their lists now. Here's the checklist.

1. Get your profile airtight

Film first, best five plays at the top. Verified height, weight, and testing numbers — coaches mentally discount anything self-reported. A real photo. Your school, your GPA, your contact info. If a coach can't evaluate you in two minutes, he moves to the kid he can.

2. Build a target list of 20 schools

Five dream schools, ten schools that match your film honestly, five schools where you'd be the guy on day one. Every school on the list should actually run a scheme you fit. Twenty is enough to matter and few enough to work.

3. Find the right coach at each one

Not the head coach — the position coach and the recruiting coordinator, plus the assistant who covers your state. Staff pages are public. Fifteen minutes per school. Write it all down.

4. Send the boring email

Subject line: “2027 OL | 6'4 285 | 3.5 GPA | [Your School], [State].” Three sentences, film linked, profile linked, your fall schedule mentioned. Send it to the position coach at all twenty schools. Do it on a weekday morning. Then do the follow-up in August with your camp results and any new numbers.

5. Camp with a purpose

Camps are auditions, not vacations — pick ones where the schools on YOUR list will actually be coaching, not just the biggest name within driving distance. One camp where the right position coach watches you for two hours beats five camps of standing in line.

6. Clean up the socials

Coaches scroll. Deep. Before your name goes on a board in a staff room, somebody has looked at everything you've posted since eighth grade. Handle it now, in July, when it costs you nothing.

The whole point

None of this requires stars, camps invites, or a trainer. It requires a few focused weekends before the season eats your calendar. The 2027s who do this checklist walk into September already on watchlists. The ones who don't will spend senior year asking why nobody's calling.
